Chess bots for every level, from 250 to 3200
Meet the ChessMess bot ladder: 19 characters with their own styles, from first-time beginners to grandmaster strength, plus an adaptive bot and full Stockfish.
A good practice opponent is one you can almost beat. ChessMess has a bot for every step of that climb.
Why "human-like" matters
A bot that plays perfect moves and then a random blunder teaches you to wait for blunders. ChessMess bots choose among several good-looking moves the way people do: beginners chase captures, club players miss quiet defences, masters rarely slip. Their mistakes look like real mistakes — the kind you'll face in real games.
Pick your opponent
- New to chess — start with Pip (250) or Bea (400). Bea loves captures: punish her greedy grabs.
- Know the rules, still learning tactics — Milo (550) and Tula (700). Tula sets small traps.
- Casual player — Rafa (850), Noor (1000), Otto (1150), Ines (1300). Otto plays gambits; Noor never hangs pieces.
- Club player — Kofi (1450) to Sora (1900). Viktor (1750) squeezes endgames.
- Advanced — Amara (2050), Dmitri (2200), Yuki (2350).
- Master — Isolde (2500), Bastion (2650), Seraphine (2800).
- The final boss — Stockfish (3200), the full engine. Try to hold a draw.
Not sure? Play Echo, the adaptive bot: it moves up or down 50 points after each game.
